meet with
Sudan's Omar
al Bashir,
indicted for
genocide by
the
International
Criminal
Court, Inner

run-up to the
UNCTAD 14
meeting in
Nairobi,
Kenya, already
begun.
It is a
further
indictment of
Ban's
standardless
tenure at the
UN,
chockablock
with impunity
(for example
for cholera in
Haiti) and
censorship,
for example
Ban's ouster
of Inner City
Press on

increasing
dysfunction in
Ban's UN.
UNCTAD has its
quadrennial
conference
from the 17th.
Called UNCTAD
14, it takes
place in
Nairobi. It
comes at a
time when the
Secretrary
General of
UNCTAD (USG
level, Kenyan)
Mukhisa Kituyi
and his deputy
(ASG, Swedish)
Joakim Reiter
are hardly on
speaking
terms, see
below. On July
8, Inner City
Press reported
that "Reiter
appointed a
chief
information
officer to
manage
UNCTAD's
communications.
To block him,
Kituyi
designated a
retired
Ethiopian
staff member,
with no
communications
experience, to
be the
spokesperson
for UNCTAD
14."
Now Inner City
Press has
more,
exclusively
from
well-placed
sourcing, and
responded to
below. The
said “retired
Ethiopian
staff member”
is in fact
according to
his passport
British. He is
the former
director of
the LDC
Division. Of
Ethiopian
origin, he
made his UN
career on a
British
passport
(through his
spouse) and
was one of the
two D2 from
the UK in the
UNCTAD
personnel
statistics.
He retired
end-April
2016.
Interestingly,
administrative
instruction
ST/AI/2003/8,
in section 5
on Employment
of retirees,
rules that
(re-hiring)
“shall begin
only after a
period of at
least three
months has
elapsed since
the date of
retirement of
the staff
member.” How
does Kituyi
count three
months since
retirement at
end-April to
re-employ
somebody in
mid-July?
This said
“retired
Ethiopian
staff member”
for years
nurtured a
(now retired)
Afro-American
woman who
basically
self-appointed
her as “Deputy
Director of
the LDC
Division” and
officially
signed
accordingly,
although such
a post or
title did not
exist in the
UNCTAD post
nomenclature.
This person
used her
office time
and telephone
number to a
large extent
to run her
private
charity which
operates –
guess
where –
in Ethiopia.
To an
outsider, the
charity’s
former website
made it almost
looked like an
UNCTAD
technical
assistance
project. Even
the current website contains ambiguities and
grey areas in
relation to
UNCTAD/ UN. It
says for
example:
"When Jo moved
to Geneva a
the end of
2003 to return
to her former
organization,
the United
Nations
Conference on
Trade and
Development
(UNCTAD), the
idea traveled
with her, and
the Appeal’s
scope and
support
network
expanded."
Update:
Although we
had already
quoted from
and linked to
the
organization's
website, we
now publish
this long
submission,
with a single
comment at the
end:
"Your article
states that
Mr. Tesfachew
Taferre
appointed me
as Deputy of
the ALDC
division,
a title your
article states
did not exist
beforehand in
the UNCTAD
nomenclature.
Please note
that, in fact,
I was
transferred,
without my
knowledge, to
the Africa and
LDC division
in 2008.
The transfer
was a decision
made by the
Secretary-General
of UNCTAD, Mr.
Supachai and
his acting
Deputy, Mrs.
Lakshmi Puri,
who in their
wisdom decided
to reorganize
UNCTAD
following
UNCTAD 12 in
Ghana. Prior
to that, I had
served as
Secretary of
the UNCTAD
Trade and
Development
Board and Head
of the
Conference
Affairs
service of
UNCTAD.
At the time,
Mr. Tesfachew
Taferre was
chief of the
SG's office
and was not
even aware of
this
decision.
Given that I
was already at
the D1 level
at the time of
the transfer,
the SG decided
to name me
Deputy to Mr.
Habib Ouane
who was
heading the
ALDC division
at the time.
I worked
with Mr. Ouane
for close to
two years and
upon his
retirement, I
was requested
by the SG to
serve as
Officer-in-Charge
(Oic) of the
division until
a replacement
could be
found. I
carried out
this role for
18 months and
did not apply
for the
post.
When Mr.
Tesfachew was
finally
selected for
this post, I
had already
served as
Deputy and Oic
for close to
four
years.
With regard to
my so called
'charity', I
wish to inform
you that I
worked at the
UN Economic
Commission for
Africa in
Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia, as
the Secretary
and Legal
Adviser for
four years
from 1999 to
2003.
While there, a
devastating
drought in
Ethiopia in
2000
threatened
more than 16
million
people.
As someone
living very
well in a very
poor country,
I and many of
my ECA and
other UN staff
members
decided to
help by
creating a
task force
called the
'Ethiopian
Food Appeal'.
With the help
of FAO, WFP
and Red Cross,
we identified
a rural
school where
children were
suffering from
hunger and
malnutrition.
We then raised
funds through
donations from
UN staff, as
well as
the
Ethiopian and
international
community,
living in
Addis.
With these
funds, we were
able to
deliver three
tons of food
and school
supplies in
2001.
Throughout my
tenure at the
ECA, we
continued to
raise funds
and to help
two schools in
Sodore,
Ethiopia (900
schoolchildren).
When I was
transferred
back to UNCTAD
in Geneva in
the Fall of
2003, my
colleagues and
I did not want
to abandon
these efforts
and thus
decided to
continue to
help these
children.
Consequently,
I organized
fundraising
bazaars twice
a year in
Geneva at an
Ethiopian
restaurant
called Awash
and invited
UNCTAD and
other UN
colleagues to
attend.
I then paid my
own airfare
and took my
personal
vacation time
every year to
travel to
Ethiopia to
personally
deliver school
books, five to
eight tons of
food annually,
clothes etc to
these
children.
Each year I
was aided by
UNECA and
other UN
staff. In
fact, every
Executive
Secretary of
ECA
( there
have been
three during
this time)
supported
these actions
and praised
our efforts.
Moreover,
every year
they provided
transportation
and fuel for
the
deliveries.
Many UNCTAD
staff and
other UN staff
based in
Geneva
volunteered
their help and
even paid
their own
airfare to
Ethiopia to
help with the
deliveries.
Kindly note
that no
'charity' was
being run at
the UN.
Instead, in
addition to
working ten
hours a day at
my UNCTAD job,
I worked
tirelessly in
my free time
to continue
helping these
children by
using my
vacation time
to make
deliveries and
by holding two
fundraising
bazaars a year
in Geneva.
The time I
spent at work
on this was
nominal and
amounted to
inviting staff
to the events.
In fact, my
efforts were
so appreciated
by most UN
colleagues
that several
asked me to
help them
replicate
similar
efforts in
their own
countries.
As a result, I
helped to
raise funds
for Haiti,
Pakistan,
India, Ghana,
Nigeria and
Portugal,
among others.
In 2014, the
UNCTAD and UN
staff unions
even asked me
to help
organize a UN
day of giving
and
volunteering
to be
celebrated
every year to
encourage
staff to get
involved in
grassroots
efforts of
this kind.
Let me repeat:
Up until my
retirement,
the Ethiopian
Food Appeal,
(subsequently
the name was
changed to
Ethiopian
Children's
Appeal, ECA),
was a
grassroots'
effort called
a 'task force'
and
established by
UNECA
staff.
All funds
raised were
sent to the
UNECA credit
union in
Addis.
Funds can not
be withdrawn
without the
signatures of
two ECA staff
members who
are members of
the task
force.
The task force
was never a
charity during
my tenure at
the UN.
There is no
paid staff and
there are no
offices, and
frankly, your
accusations
are patently
untrue.
When I retired
and moved to
the US in
2014, I
applied for US
non profit
status for the
task force and
this was
granted in
2015.
Even now,
there is no
staff, no
offices and
just a passion
and commitment
to continue
helping these
schools on my
part.
My efforts,
and those of
my colleagues,
were so
appreciated by
the UN that we
were nominated
for the UN 21
award for
staff
volunteerism
and won in
2013. SG
Ban Ki Moon
awarded us
this honour
and I doubt he
would have
done so if we
had violated
UN rules."
We must
note: using a
Ban Ki-moon
award as proof
of good faith
is not
persuasive:
this is Ban
Ki-moon who
appointed his
own son in law
to the top UN
post in Kenya
without
recusing
himself, and
allows his
mentor Han
Seung-soo to
be a UN
official while
serving on the
board of
directors of
UN bank
Standard
Chartered. As
noted, a fish
rots from the
head - as with
other
promotions we
have covered,
we blame the
head (Ban),
not
necessarily
those who do
the same
things....
… We can and
must do
better…
Because
UNCTAD is
running at the
same time as
the High Level
Political
Forum in New
York it has
struggled to
attract top
participation
from member
states.
One high-level
participant
who was
confirmed was
EU Trade
Commissioner
and Swedish
national,
Cecilia
Malmstrom. She
negotiates
trade
agreements on
behalf of the
EU, so a huge
catch for
UNCTAD.
Friday,
sources tell
Inner City
Press, she
abruptly
pulled out of
UNCTAD 14. The
question is
why? The
well-informed
sources say
that Reiter,
who is also
Swedish and
who is not on
speaking terms
with his boss
Kituyi,
persuaded her
to desist.
This comes
after he met
with developed
country
ambassadors
last week and
told them of
his intention
to resign,
although he
still hasn't
resigned. The
sources tell
Inner City
Press Reiter
would like to
replace
Malmstrom as
Swedish EU
Commissioner.
Part of the
UNCTAD dispute
centers around
Kituyi saying
Ban KI-moon
told him it's
fine to meet
with ICC
indicted Omar
Al Bashir -
luck for
Reiter he had
a follow Swede
near Ban
(though that
didn't help
Anders Kompass
- this is
Ban's UN.)
On July 12,
two days
before Ban's
spokesman
Stephane
Dujarric
simply ran out
of the UN
Press Briefing

Mr. Reiter,
should go to
represent
UNCTAD in
Sudan and meet
Omar
al-Bashir.
Told that the
USG
[Under-Secretary-General],
Mr. [Mukhisa]
Kituyi, claims
to have said
that he spoke
to Ban Ki-moon
who said that
it would be
fine for an
ASG [Assistant
Secretary-General]
to meet with
Bashir.
Is that true,
and, if so,
how is that an
essential
contact…
conduct…
contact of the
type that the
ICC
[International
Criminal
Court]…?
Spokesman
Dujarric:
I don't
know.
I'm not aware
of a meeting
or a phone
call that may
or may not
have
happened.
I think the
rules that are
to be followed
of contacts
between UN
officials and
people who
have been
indicted by
the ICC are
clear, and
those rules
have not
changed.

Bashir would
not comply

to speculate
to meetings
that I'm not
aware of.
Right.
But Dujarric
can abuse his
podium to call
filming of his
vanity B-Roll
with NHK
"stalking," video of B-roll and explanation here,
in response to
(which)
hindering of
Inner City
Press'
coverage of
Ban Ki-moon's
dubious human
rights speech.
Background:
The UNCTAD
rift began in
December at
the WTO
ministerial
meeting in
Nairobi, when
Reiter proved
more
successful in
capturing
attention in
the Kenyan
press. (Kituyi
nurtures
ambitions in
Kenyan
politics.)
Born in 1974,
Reiter is
known among UN
staff for his
arrogance.
Various other
events
followed,
including most
significantly
Kituyi,
wanting to put
Reiter in his
place,
insisting that
Reiter
represent
UNCTAD at an
event in
Sudan. Reiter
declined,
saying that as
a high-level
official it
would be
inappropriate
to have
working level
relations with
the Sudan
president --
indicted for
genocide by
the ICC -- and
that a normal
staff member
should head
the UNCTAD
delegation.
Kituyi came
back saying
that he had
spoken with
Ban Ki-moon,
who said it
was OK. Mister
Impunity.
Reiter
immediately
contacted his
Swedish
compatriot,
Eliasson, who
opined that he
shouldn't go
to Sudan. But
as on the
eviction of
Inner City
Press, what
follow up was
there?
More
recently,
Reiter
appointed a
chief
information
officer to
manage
UNCTAD's
communications.
To block him,
Kituyi
designated a
retired
Ethiopian
staff member,
with no
communications
experience, to
be the
spokesperson
for UNCTAD 14.
So there!
It also
emerged that
Reiter has
been told that
he and his
team have been
banished from
the hotel
where Kituyi
and all UNCTAD
staff will be
staying, the
Kempinski.
Instead he and
his close team
have to say at
the
Intercontinental.
Last
week, sources
say, Reiter
started
visiting
ambassadors
from developed
countries. He
told the
German and US
ambassadors he
intended to
resign prior
to the
expiration of
his contract
next March.
However, to
save face,
Kituyi has
been forced to
bring him to
Nairobi for
the meeting.
This is Ban's
UN: impunity
and censorship
and decay. We
can and must
do better.
As the UN
bribery
scandal
gathered force
Secretary
General Ban
Ki-moon called
for an audit
by the UN
Office of
Internal
Oversight
Services of
the Global
Sustainability
Foundation
(GSF), David
Ng Lap Seng's
Sun Kian Ip
Group and its
affiliates
including the
"World Harmony
Foundation"
and South
South News,
among others.
The
audit,
completed
early this
year but first
put online
by Inner City
Press,
directly
criticizes
Cristina
Gallach, the
Under
Secretary
General for
Communications
and Public
Information.

this Macau
Centre that

thing that Ng
Lap Seng was

documents
for.
It's described
as a global
media platform
authorized by
the UN.
And they put
these in as…
as essentially
saying that
this is a
conduit for
bribery.
So, I wanted
to know:
Since you've
said that the
UN is
monitoring
this, given
that the
prosecutor
[inaudible]
has put this…
this letter, I
guess they got
it in
discovery or
in some other
fashion in,
what is the
UN's response
to it?

Well, like I
said, we have
been
monitoring it
and are
looking at all
of the
information
that's coming
up. And
in that
regard, as you
know, there's
an ongoing
review of the
status of
South-South
News.
There's no
conclusion to
that review at
this point.

was a meeting
held down in
1D Basement,
DPI
[Department of
Public
Information]
and something
called the
Malko
Investment
Group.
And since I
googled Malko
Investment
Group and
nothing came
up, I sent him
an e-mail and
asked what is
this entity
and why is
this meeting
being held in
the UN?
And I wanted
to reiterate
to you, why
would DPI be
having a
meeting in a
UN
meeting room
with an
investment
group and
particularly
one that
doesn't…
that's either
misnamed on
the sign or
doesn't exist
at all?

I'm not aware
of the
circumstances
of the
meeting.
I will check
with DPI, what
they have to
say about
that.
But, at this
stage, I'm
not… I'm not
aware whether
they're the
sponsor of
that… of that
particular
meeting or
not.

not return
with any
answer from
due
diligence-less
DPI. From the
prosecutor's
new letter:

dated on or

12, 2010, an
individual
affiliated
with the State
Council
Information
Office, an
entity of the
PRC
government,
sent an email
to a business
associate of
Ng, containing
a draft letter
(in Chinese)
for Ng to sign
or approve.
According to a
draft
translation
prepared by
the Federal
Bureau of
Investigation
(“FBI”), the
letter, which
began with Ng
introducing
himself as a
member of
Chinese
People’s
Political
Consultative
Conference
(“CPPCC”), a
political
advisory body,
and as the
“Chairman of
the Board of
the United
Nations South
South News,”
stated in
pertinent
part:
[quote] my
greatest wish
is to fairly
and
objectively
report the
social
development,
religion,
culture, and
ideology of
China through
the South
South News, a
global media
platform
authorized by
the UN, to
display
China’s soft
power, counter
malicious,
distorted news
by anti-China
forces, and
let the whole
world hear a
true voice
that comes
from China to
understand the
real China. .
. .
. . . I will
select
suitable
regions in
China to
establish a
South South
Cooperation
Organization
International
Conference
Center and a
South South
News Network
Media
Production
Center as a
base of
operations for
South South
News.
Hope that the
plan to
establish two
centers and
the
development of
South South
News in China
can obtain
strong support
from the
government of
China.

As the Court
is aware,
South South
News, the
entity
described in
the above
email, is the
conduit
through which
the Government
alleges that
defendants Ng
and Jeff C.
Yin funneled
some of their
bribe and
money
laundering
payments.”
So it says
South South
News was
“authorized”
by the UN; the
prosecution
says Ng and
Yin used South
South News as
a conduit for
bribery in the
UN. And as of
July 8, South
South News
still has its
UN official
from Ban
Ki-moon as
Inner City
Press while
investigating
it was evicted
and is now
restricted to
only cover
events on the
UN Conference
Building's
second floor
-- ECOSOC and
the
Trusteeship
Council
Chambers, the
General
Assembly and
General
Assembly
President's
office -- with
one of Ban
Ki-moon's
minders. This
is Ban's UN.
Inner City
Press: Monday
down in… in
Federal Court,
there was a
hearing for
Mr. Ng Lap
Seng in the
ongoing case,
and Assistant
District
Attorney
[Daniel]
Richenthal
basically
widened the
case and said
they're going
to be… there's
more things
they're
looking at as
to Ng Lap
Seng, and he
also described
in more detail
a, quote,
conduit of
bribery taking
place within
the UN.
And I wanted
to know, since
you've said
you're
monitoring it,
what is the
UN's response
to the new
information
that was
presented on
Monday?
Deputy
Spokesman:
Yeah, we are
aware of the
latest
information,
and, as I've
pointed out,
the situation
of South-South
News is under
review.
It continues
to be under
review, but
certainly, any
new
information is
useful in
light of that.
After the
above, a
corporate news
wire which has
a conflict of
interest on
this passed
through South
South News'
claims that it
has had "no connection with any government at any level"
- this is
false. But the
conflicted
corporate
wire, with its
own Permanent
seat on the
board of hte
UN
Correspondents
Assocation
which took
money from
Ng's South
South News,
merely passes
through the
denial. Call
it journalism?
We'll have
more on this.
On June 27,
former South
South News
reporter
turned
spokesperson
for John Ashe
and now his
family wrote
to the UN
press corps,
some of whom
she saw over
the weekend:
"Dear Friends

and Media
Representatives,

the Family of
the late John.
W. Ashe,
President of
the UN General
Assembly 68th
Session, at
the request of
his widowed
wife, Anilla

If the goal
was to
distinguish
South South
News from John
Ashe and Ng
Lap Seng, this
doesn't do it.
The audit
deals with
South South
News - which
as of June 27
STILL has a UN
office, photo
here,
UNlike Inner
City Press. In
Ban's UN one
only gets due
process if one
has money, or
pays money, as
South South
News did,
including to
the UN
Correspondents
Association
which then
gave Ng Lap
Seng a
photo-op with
Ban. Or as the
Saudis did to
get Ban to
remove them
from the Yemen
Children and
Armed Conflict
annex.
On June 27 in
Federal Court,
Assistant U.S.
Attorney
Daniel
Richenthal
said that
South South
News was a
conduit for
bribery
involving the
now
conveniently
(and
mysteriously)
deceased
former PGA
John Ashe.
(Some with
links to Ashe
try to erase
all trace, but
here
is one:
UNCA with
AAshe's
spokesperson
Konja,
formerly of
South South
News), which
one
wire-with-a-conflict
covering this
story never
mentions.
Compare to this.)
Meanwhile
while Inner
City Press can
only work with
minders, its
office given
to Akhbar
Elyom's
correspondent,
a former UNCA
presdient,
sits empty and
Gallach
gallavants in
Paris. We'll
have more on
all this.
Nor does Ban's
audit mention
that his Sri
Lanka adviser
Vijay Nambiar
and his
spouse, Ban
Soon-taek,
were both
present at the
founding of
the Global
Sustainability
Foundation;
the latter
took photos
with South
South News'
indicted
Vivian Wang at
the UN
Correspondents
Association
ball where
UNCA gave Ng,
from whose
South South
News it took
money, a photo
op with Ban
himself.
On April 16,
at Ban's and
his USG
Cristina
Gallach's
direction,
Inner City
Press' long
time UN office
in S-303 was
evicted and
five boxes of
files were
dumped onto
First Avenue.

Pioli, openly
tells people
to pay it
money, it can
get them UN
official
space. This is
corruption.
Now
since the
eviction of
Inner City
Press, South
South News has
sent out a
press release
saying that
despite the
guilty plea by
its President
Francis
Lorenzo and
indictment of
its Vice
President
Vivan Wang, it
is clean - and
blames its
problems on a
"few
independent
journalists."
Wonder who's
referred to -
as the other
one(s).
Not Reuters,
which passes
through
without
analysis South
South News'
press releases
- and without
disclosing
that Reuters'
Lou
Charbonneau
and now
Michelle
Nichols have
occupied
Reuters'
permanent seat
on the
Executive
Committee of
the UN

which took

News' money

Ki-moon.

founding is
described in
the John Ashe

Seng
indictment; it
is portrayed

audit. The
name South
South News has
appeared in
the Panama
Papers.
For

UN example. To
deliver
"personal"
invitations to
the South
South Awards,
which USG
Gallach
attended in
September
2015, South
South News
needed access
to the UN
during the
Septameber
High Level
week. So,
Inner City
Press is
informed,
South South
News personnel
got D or
Diplomat
passes through
Lorenzo's
Dominican
Republic
mission to the

indeed.

nothing to do
with this

attacks are
counterproductive

but all sorts

been victims
of

facing similar

inter alia, as

OIOS noted
that the
exhibition
held of 30
June 2015 was
not in
compliance
with these

The Exhibits
Committee did
not authorize
the exhibition
because it did
not receive a
proposal in
accordance
with (b)

Chef de
Cabinet of the
Office of the
President of
the
sixty-ninth
session of the
General
Assembly
informed the
Exhibits
Committee of
the
President’s
decision to
host a series
of major
cultural
events, which
included an
exhibition,
reception, and
concert. The
Committee
informed the
Office of the
President that
the exhibition
was not in
accordance
with the
regulations
for exhibits
in publicly
accessible
areas at
Headquarters,
but the Office
of the
President
decided to
proceed with
the exhibition
anyway.
Therefore, the
Exhibits
Committee did
not accept,
reject or
alter the
“proposal”.

website, it
claims to be
publishing
articles they
say were
published in
December 2016,
which hasn't
actually
occurred
yet. So,
there's
something a
little… What's
been done on
the
recommendations
as to… to
UNPAN and the
use of its
name by the
entities that
were
audited....

think, as all

includes
recommendations
and includes
the status of
those
recommendations,

through with

and his spouse

corruption.

purport to

Astoria
including the
Under
Secretary

different
things I want
to ask you
about it, but
main thing I
want to ask
about is,
there's an
entire section
that runs from
paragraph 37

paragraph 40
that it's
about an
exhibit they
say was
improperly
held in the
Visitor's
Lobby on 30
June
2015.
And it goes
through a lot
of detail, and
it says that
the
Under-Secretary-General
of the
Department of
Public
Information is
in charge of
the exhibits
committee and,
I guess, in
charge of the
space.
And somehow,
this exhibit
was held in
violation of a
number of the
rules that
apply to
it. What
I'm wondering
is, what is
the
response?
Obviously, it
seems like you
guys have had
access to this
audit even
before it was
sent to Member
States.
What is the
thinking… the
way they walk
through it is
they say… it
seems strange.
If she's in
charge of the
space and the
exhibit took
place without
complying with
the rules,
what is the
response to
her
responsibility
for
that?
And what steps
have been
taken?
The audit
doesn't say
that any steps
have yet been
taken to
address that.

regard to the
specific cases
referred to in
the audit,
actions being
taken to
determine
responsibility
and any
follow-up and
any measures
that may be
deemed
appropriate.
And so, we'll
continue to
study that.

audit, there
obviously is a
long section
about
South-South
News, but I
noticed that a
related entity
of which
there's been a
lot of
coverage is
South-South
Awards.
And it's
unclear, it's
not mentioned
once in
here.
And this is
something
that… I mean,
the
Secretary-General
received the
South-South
Award.
This is an
entity that's
absolutely
connected to
Ng Lap Seng
and Frank
Lorenzo et
al. So,
the question
is, who… maybe
that's OIOS,
but who
decided on the
scope of this
audit, the
date that it
would start, 1
January 2012,
and the
exclusion of…
of… one of the
things that
people
covering this
scandal have
focused on are
these glitzy
events in the
Waldorf.
The
Under-Secretary-General
of DPI did
attend in
September, but
prior to that,
Ms. [Susana]
Malcorra took
an award for
Ban
[Ki-moon].
Why is this
not in the
audit?
And will there
be an audit of
South-South
Awards going
forward?

think the
audit is what
it is.
It's prepared
by the
professional
people in the
Office of
Internal
Oversight who
deal with
audits.
And you can
evaluate the
results for

other thing I

about, because

asked Stéphane
[Dujarric] and
you, going
back to
October, about
the inclusion
of South-South
News content
in UN
Television
archives.
And,
eventually,
you came back
with this
answer that it
was due to
Habitat.
And I just…
I've pointed
out to you
that there's a
number of
things that
have nothing
to do with
Habitat, a
number of
inclusions
that you just
search UNTV
for
"South-South
News".
But, I do
notice in this
audit that
there is a
reference to
South-South
News and
Habitat.
So, I wanted
to know, was
this finding
that you said
of people
looking into
how it got in
there, was it
basically just
taken from
reading the
audit, or was
there a… a… a…
an analysis,
either by your
office or DPI,
of how the
many other
inclusions of
South-South
News and UNTV
archives took
place?

using timing

omission, by
stopping the

at the UN
Correspondents

ball at
Cipriani's
42nd Street
after giving
money to UNCA
including for
a two page ad
spread in
UNCA's “ball
book.”
While
Dujarric's
deputy Farhan
Haq allowed
four UNCA
board members
from Reuters,
France 24 and
Agence France
Presse to seek
to rebut this
including by
directly
addressing
Inner City
Press in the
noon briefing
on April 6,
the cut-off at
January 1,
2012 is
problematic,
especially as
related to Ban
Ki-moon
himself.
The
audit goes out
of its way to
say that Ban's
Executive
Office of the
Secretary
General did
not know when
a letter to it
was modified
to add the
name of Ng's
firm and of
South South
News. How is
that possible?

direct dealing

audit by a

irregularities

he compared to
a Franz Kafka
novel.
'Initially,
they tried to
say that I
secretly
filmed a
closed
meeting,' he
said.
'That's fallen
apart because
the meeting
wasn't
recorded as
closed.' Lee
laughed off
allegations
that he
entered a
restricted
area to
secretly film
the meeting,
which he
broadcast via
a popular
web-casting
platform.
'It's hard to
say that a
Periscope
live-streaming
with my arms
up is secret,'
he said.
By downgrading
his
residential
correspondent
credentials to
a second-tier
status, the
U.N. has
restricted
Lee's freedom
of movement,
forced him to
be chaperoned
by a minder."
