In DC Insurrection Case Dresch Is Said Older Than MLK Was, Upper Michigan By Border

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Podcast Song
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

FEDERAL COURT, May 3 – Minutes into a break in the impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate, accused insurrectionist Domenic Pezzola was ordered detained until trial by Magistrate Judge Robin M. Meriweather. Inner City Press live tweeted it, below. There was an appeal.

On May 3, well over a month after the DC Circuit's decision in US v. Munchel, DDC Judge Amy Berman Jackson heard arguments on detaining in US v. Karl Dresch. Inner City Press live tweeted it, here (Podcast here)

Judge Amy B. Jackson recounts Dresch's concerns about media vilification. She says, it may have been covered in Michigan but not much here in DC, in any event she doesn't consider that. She says she got a letter from Michigan urging her to detain Dresch. She quotes Munchel, that bail determinations must be forward looking.

Defense lawyer cuts in to say he was disconnected for a few minutes.

Now Judge Amy B. Jackson is inquiring into guns found in Dersch's house. She is told that they only found two guns, and that "just having knowledge is not the same as possession."

Assistant US Attorney: The first search was only for Jan 6 evidence. After that, an ATF warrant was executed and found two more guns and rounds in the backpack that traveled to DC. As a convicted felon, he was prohibited from having any of this.

Dersch's lawyer: If you have a search warrant for chihuahuas, it's hard to understand you not finding Dobermann Pinschers

Judge Amy B. Berman: A letter writer calls Dresch a "good kid." But he's 40. Tom Brady won many Super Bowls by then. MLK was dead by then. We are assessing an adult.

AUSA: The defense calls this impulsive and reckless behavior. But this was dangerous - he expressed disrespect for law enforcement, and had guns. It doesn't matter than his prior charges were 8 years ago. This is who he is.

Dresch's lawyer: What he was proud of was doing to DC to support his president. He won't do it again. He lives on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He asked on Facebook the night before, I'm not sure what the point of this is.

Dresch's lawyer: I feel like I'm "beating my head against a dead horse... I think I've said my piece."

AUSA: That remove Upper Peninsula of Michigan is very close to the Canadian border - so, he shouldn't be released.

Judge Amy B. Jackson: I'm going to take this under advisement. I'm not going to decide now. I have things to think about

We will have more on this.
