UNITED
NATIONS,
August
24 --
On August 23,
North Korea
asked for an
urgent UN
Security
Council
meeting on
joint military
operations,
then fired a
submarine-launched
ballistic
missile. Can
you hear me
now?
On August 24,
the US, Japan
and South
Korea asked
for a Security
Council
meeting, and
got it
scheduled for
that
afternoon,
after a
session on
Lebanon.
On the way in
to Lebanon
meeting, UK
deputy
ambassador
Peter Wilson
said the
submarine-launched
ballistic
missile shows
“yet again
that DPRK is
prepared to
flout Security
Council
resolutions...
We expect
counties to
condemn that
action, we're
looking for a
united SC
response.”
French deputy
ambassador
Alexis Lamec
said France
wants a
Council
reaction that
is “quick and
firm.” Then he
turned and
went in.
