Dutch FM Zijlstra Quits For
Dark Dacha Talk, No Echo Yet

UNITED NATIONS,
February 13 – While at the UN
officials virtually never quit
or are fired regardless of what
they do, or don't do, in the
Netherlands it is different.
Dutch Foreign Minister Halbe
Zijlstra has resigned for lying
that at a supposed gathering
with Russia's Putin, "I was
tucked away back in the room,
but I could clearly hear Putin's
answer to the question about
what he considered greater
Russia."
He has quit, though there was no
echo of it on February 13 in the
UN Security Council, whether the
Netherlands holds a seat this
year. When UN Secretary General
Antonio Guterres met Sigrid Kaag
on January 15, he joked before
the Press was ushered out that
he could not get used to her new
role, as Dutch minister, still
seeing her with the UN (from
Lebanon to Syria chemical
weapons.) In those UN roles,
Kaag blocked
Inner City Press on Twitter.
Notably she stopped the blocking
as soon as she left the UN,
showing that the UN either
encourages or has fewer
disincentives to censorship than
the private sector. Perhaps the
resignation atop the Dutch
foreign ministry, and
replacement, will be heard of in
connection with the UN's North
Korea sanctions committee, which
the Netherlands chairs. Watch
this site.
