EDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 12 – In its first
criminal jury trial since the
COVID pandemic hit in March,
the U.S. District Court for
the Eastern District of New
York has begun a trial of
Alonzo Shipp, charged with
being a felon in
possession of gun and
ammo in connection with
shooting a victim in Jamaica,
Queens on July 20,
2018.
Inner City Press,
covering the EDNY like SDNY,
live tweeted it, here:
Witness is the
owner of R&R business.
Q: This photo, is
that where the dumpster is
when you leave it out
overnight? A: No.
Q:
On July 20, 2018, was anyone
with you at work?
A: Yes, my
nephew. We found a gun. Q: Did
you know whose gun it was or
how it got there? A: No. And
we did not touch it.
AUSA: No
further questions. Cross: You
don't know what happened from
6 pm July 19 and 8 am July 20,
right? A: Right.
Next witness:
NYPD Detective Daniel
Gallagher of the 113th
Precinct in Jamaica, Queens.
AUSA: Were you
involved in investigating the
shooting of Mr. Reginald Cook?
Gallagher:
Yes. I went to the hospital. I
recovered 3 bullet fragments
and vouchered them.
Defense: I
will cross examine after a
side-bar.
Jury is asked to
go to the jury room so lawyers
and Judge Rachel P. Kovner can
gather together - consistent
with social distancing - for a
sidebar.
Now the jury is
let go for the day - though
they can pick up lunch in the
jury room before heading out,
if they want. Trial will
continue - watch this site.
