EDNY COURTHOUSE,
August 17 – Nine members of
two crime families were
indicted on August 16.
Breon Peace, US
Attorney for the Eastern
District of New York, said in
a statement, "Today’s arrests
of members from two La Cosa
Nostra crime families
demonstrate that the Mafia
continues to pollute our
communities with illegal
gambling, extortion, and
violence while using our
financial system in service to
their criminal schemes."
The
statement, unlike those of
many other US Attorneys'
office, listed two press
contacts.
So Inner City
Press asked the listed Public
Information Act John Marzulli
and his associate Danielle
Blustein Hass, for the names
and telephone numbers of the
defendants' lawyers, noting
that it is "information that
is or will be made public" and
so should be provided
even-handednly, at the same
time, or put on the EDNY
website.
In
fairness this arrived, albeit
a day later than others got it
and so less useful but we
publish it in full to make it
public:
"For Joseph
Macario – Gerald
McMahon
For Carmelo Polito – Gerald
McMahon
For Salvatore Rubino – Walter
Mack
For Mark Feuer – Donald
DuBoulay
For Anthony Pipitone –
Elizabeth
Macedonio
For Joseph Rutigliano -- Not
available
For Anthony Gabriele – Calvin
Scholar
For Hector Rosario --
Lou
Freeman
For Vito Pipitone -- Not
available"
It's
appreciated, and made public.
How two separate defendants,
with different last names, can
have the same attorney without
at least a Curcio hearing is
not yet known. Inner City
Press is also inquiring into
the plumbing of CJA counsel
assignment, and how these
accused kingpins are eligible
for taxpayer-funded counsel.
Inner City
Press will continue to cover
these and other EDNY
cases.
