In EDNY Valentine Sues Detective Who Beat Him But He's Under IAD Investigation So Delay

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

EDNY COURTHOUSE, Dec 29 – In the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York at noon on December 29, a proceeding was held by Magistrate Judge Vera M. Scanlon in the case of man who says he was beaten by police while filing on May 31, 2020. Inner City Press covered it.

Rayne Valentine says he was on his way home from work at King County Hospital when he saw a man in a hoodie being chased by NYPD Detective Amjad Kasaji and others. He filmed it, he says, then was pushed down and beaten.

On December 29 the City's lawyers said they cannot respond on Kasaji as he is the subject of an Internal Affairs Division investigating. Judge Scanlon couldn't that they should provide the names of the John Doe police officers, in short order. We'll see.

The case is Valentine v. City of New York, 21-cv-4867 (EDNY: Komittee / Scanlon)
