LITERARY SDNY,
June 29 – The CIA
witness they called Jeremy
Weber was in the witness box
in the semi sealed
courtroom. Kurt
Wheelock, delayed by NYC's
broken subway system, ran up
to the overflow courtroom
where the trial was being
shown on a screen.
There was no one
else there but for a Court
Security Officer. Another had
asked, Why aren't you covering
Maxwell? Or, only covering
Maxwell?
Later, back
in the courtroom, Kurt saw
that in the second row were
Schulte's parents and a
younger man, maybe a brother.
(This was later confirmed to
him: a brother).
"How much
more cross do you have?" Judge
Furman asked Schulte.
"Maybe ten
more pages," Schulte
replied.
"How many
pages have you gone through so
far?" the judge
asked.
Schulte
flipped through his binder,
that he carried with him up to
the ninth floor SCIF, and
apparently in the van back to
the MDC in Brooklyn, where he
said he'd wait for hours to
get readmitted. The most
exclusive ticket in
town. "Fifty," he
finally said. "So I'm
five-sixths
through."
"Good," Judge
Furman said. "We're going to
need to streamline things."
It was all being
streamlined. There was almost
nobody here. Why? More on
