SDNY / Amazon,
SINY, April 1 -- It was the last day
of the government's case against Larry Ray,
with the three Santos' mother, through an
interpreter, and then the recorded prison
calls of Larry Ray. He was saying, let's
collect all the evidence about Claudia Drury
trying to poison me.
There
was a break, and Kurt Wheelock tried to
write other stories. One from the SDNY
Magistrates Court, and another about the
formation of a union at Amazon on Staten
Island. It was ironic: Isabella Pollok
worked there, with a GPS ankle bracelet. She
was facing trial - was she now in a union
too?
Once
the jury had been sent home until Monday,
Ray's lawyer Glenn Ripa testified. He had
been an IRS agent; now as a lawyer he
advised Larry Ray he didn't have to pay
taxes on the million dollars from Drury's
forced prostitution, since he claimed it was
a personal injury repayment.
It
was an absurd idea. Why couldn't Pablo
Escobar say his millions were all from a
Medellin slip and fall? Kurt who had, like
Ripa, gone to Fordham law school listened
with interest, half expecting the Marshals
to be called to arrest Ripa. Maybe a bar
complaint would be filed after the trial.
Ripa was told to return Monday at 8:45 am.
Kurt would be there too. After more

When Inner
City Press for investigative
reporting was roughed up and thrown
out onto First Avenue
from covering the United
Nations of/by UNSG Antonio
Guterres, many did nothing.
But as we've previously noted,
the First Amendment stops at
First Avenue. We'll have more
on this, here and on other
platforms.
