Apparently
Guterres
had taken the info about MH17 and
traded it for peace with the Russian
-- not for Ukraine, but for himself.
The public complaints against him by
Lavrov and his UN Ambassador had
subsided.
They
had been replaced by complaints from
Ukraine, right up to President
Zelenkyy, at least online. They were
focused on an e-mail by the UN
Department of Global Communications
under Melissa Fleming, telling UN
staff not to call Ukraine a "war" or
even "invasion."
Now Fleming spun that it had
only been sent to 25 staff or
officials -- she refused to say which,
Kurt was reporting - and Guterres' and
Kofi Annan's long time spokesman
Stephane Dujarric was calling it all
fake news. He should know.
But
Martin Randall Long came up with a
new, longer-shot idea. He'd noticed in
Kurt's live tweeting from SDNY another
UN connection. In the dock down there
was a freak show sex cultist named
Larry Ray.
Long had followed the case
mostly to see how the Federal
Defenders would try to defend the
indefensible, and relatedly how they
or the taxpayers could afford to put
five lawyers on this case when other
defendants had far fewer.
But
Kurt had noted that Larry Ray, as if
in a previous life, had set up a
meeting for Mikhail Gorbachev, former
president of the USSR, with Bernie
Kerik's drivee, Rudy Giuliani. How
could that be?
Long
did a little research, in his still
cold office looking out from above the
Ali Baba fruit stand at Chatham
Square. Ray had somehow gotten to know
Gorby's interpreter, a guy named Pavel
Palazhchenko (who sounded to Long's
untrained ear to be Ukrainian). And
through that, when Gorbachev came to
New York City on December 18, 1997,
Ray had been the middleman to set up
his meeting with Giuliani.
WTF, Long said out loud. He
knew that Kurt was only a block away,
in the SDNY Press Room live tweeting
the trial of US v. Larry Ray,
something about a Dominican kid from
The Bronx named Santos Rosario who had
been taken in by Ray to the extent
that, according to Kurt's live tweets,
he had slapped himself in the face
repeatedly to try to get his also
brainwashed sister to stop talking. On
video no less.
When the Ray trial day was
over, and Kurt had uploaded a two
minute podcast that Long listened to,
recognizing the echo of the fire
stairs where Kurt recorded them, Long
texted him to come over to Ali Baba.
As usual Kurt replied Yes but did not
arrive right away.
When
he did, it was with a clam shell
container of Number Two cabbage and
pork from Tasty Dumpling. "Have one,"
Kurt said. Long did, adding a bit of
the chili sauce they called The Baby
that both he and Kurt liked, and that
they still hadn't run out of in the
store on Catherine Street.
"How much do you know about
when Gorbachev visited the UN?" Long
asked, still chewing.
"It was a big speech at the
time," Kurt said. "It was in '88, just
before the total bust up on the Soviet
Union. The headline was that Gorbachev
was going to massively reduce the
USSR's military spending, and let the
satellite countries of Eastern Europe
get away."
"Like Ukraine," Long said.
Kurt
nodded. "I see where you're going with
this," he said. Although he didn't. #TheWeaselsOfWallStreet
