SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 6 -- With the convictions of
Ghislaine Maxwell put into doubt by chatty
juror Scotty David, but Judge Nathan refusing
to even docket, much less grant, his request
to unredact Maxwell's letter, Kurt turned
north of the border.
He had been covering the cases against Peter
Nygard of Winnipeg and the Bahamas, first the
civil case and then SDNY's prosecution. But
now Ontario had also filed suit, which
Winnipeg and Manitoba never did. Nygard had
said he consented to extradition to New York,
but today wanted to be released on bail in
Canada.
While
Judge Nathan limited public access to
Maxwell's trial by denying the call-in line,
and allowing Maxwell and DOJ to redact much of
the filings, it Canada it might be ever worse.
There was some prohibition on reporting
anything about a case that wasn't seen in
court.
It
was like the UN, whose UN Dispute Tribunal had
ordered Kurt to destroy evidence of sexual
harassment in the UN that he been leaked to
him, and that he'd already published. Not only
was it impossible to destroy, it also made a
mockery of freedom of the press.
But even with three UN Appeals Tribunal judges
siding
with him, UNSG Antonio Guterres didn't have to
do anything. With impunity, his power to
censor was absolute.
In
Canada you weren't supposed to public. But
what made Nygard worse, in a way, than
Epstein, or more close to the UN was that he
targeted girls of color, in the developing
world, just like the UN peacekeepers.
Nygard
bought and built Nygard Cay, and paid
teenagers from Over the Hill in Nassau to come
to his so-called pamper parties. There he
raped them, then handed envelopes of cash.
Similar to Epstein. But an open racist to
boot, something about the berry and the fruit.
And birds of a feather: Prince Andrew visited
Nygard Cay, a new focus for Kurt. More here.
Kurt
was ready for Nygard's extradition, and to
report on the hearing as soon as it was over.
That would be tomorrow. Until then, he went to
the Magistrates Court, to watch his friend and
sometimes collaborator Michael Randall Long
work his Mag Court magic. That was another
story. #LongLaw [so far, in Belt
& Roadkill]
The underlying
case is US v. Maxwell,
20-cr-330 (Nathan).
