SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 10 -- Judge Alison Nathan, who
had yet to unseal any of Maxwell's Juror 50
redactions or to docket Kurt's challenge to
them, had sent Monday as the deadline for
proposals on the severed perjury charges in
the indictment against Ghislaine Maxwell.
But
it wasn't until after 8 pm, long after Juror
50's lawyer had written to Kurt, that the
proposal went in. The US Attorney's Office was
it would be willing to entirely drop the
perjury charges, if Maxwell's post-trial
motions were denied.
That
is to say, no matter what sentence Maxwell
got, or if she won on appeal to the Second
Circuit to which Nathan was seeking to rise,
the lying under oath counts that DOJ had
chosen to put before the grand jury thereby
undermining any evidence Maxwell could given
against others higher up would magically
disappear.
Kurt
wrote it up, then sent in another unsealing
letter, this time to another judge. It was in
another SDNY sexual abuse case, against
tri-state dirty doctor Ricardo Cruciani. Kurt
had been the only journalist in the Magistrate
Court when he had been brought in in shackles
in October, the month before the Maximum
Maxwell trial began.
Cruciani
had been released on $2 million bond secured
by properties in two states; he'd had two
retained lawyers.
Now
Cruciani was asking for the tax payers to pay
for his legal defense, but didn't want the
public to see the basis for the implausibly
argument that a doctor with at least two
houses in two states could be so poor that he
needed a public defender.
Kurt
has gotten the similar financial affidavit of
Michael Avenatti unsealed, and the New York
Law Journal and AP had written that up. So he
emailed in a letter seeking to unseal
Cruciani's filings, citing Avenatti, asking to
be heard. But would he be? #MaximumMaxwell.
