SDNY
COURTHOUSE, Dec 8 -- Now that the prosecutors
had said their case would rest in days, Kurt
looked more closely at each witness and asked
himself and then his online readers what they
had accomplished. Day 8 began with a woman
you'd been a property manager at Trump's
Mar-A-Lago, to say when a Mr. Sky Roberts had
been hired.
So would Virginia
Roberts Giuffre, who was suing Prince Andrew,
also take the stand? There was also a Mrs.
Hesse who had worked at Casa Epstein in Palm
Beach, to say how phone messages were taken
down. The defense tried to say that these
rules were often broken. But Judge Nathan let
the testimony in.
Less
mundane was Carolyn's then-boyfriend Shawn,
who described himself waiting outside Casa
Epstein for an hour while Carolyn was raped
inside. That they broke up later did not
surprise Kurt. But over an X-box and a pawn
shop? Shawn said he was now a salesman, and he
tried to sell his role. But why wasn't he also
on trial, for pimping out a 14 year old girl?
The
longest witness of Day 8 was Epstein's other
pilot, David Rogers. He described Epstein's
ever-growing fleet of planes, including the
Boeing 727 Epstein had flow to Africa in 2002
with Bill Clinton, Chris Taylor and Kevin
Spacey.
The last had turned out
to be a rapist too; Clinton of course was
legendary. But that flights too close to the
sun had perhaps been Epstein's downfall - it
brought the tabloids then the law down on him,
after Gawker later published some flight logs
with the names of passengers.
Despite
those being public, here the government
blacked out, and Judge Nathan agreed to
withhold, all names of passengers. Instead
AUSA Comey asked again and again, "And on this
flight were Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine
Maxwell, Virginia Roberts and another
passenger, right?"
"Right," Rogers would
say. So who was this additional passenger? Was
it the same each time? Was it Prince Andrew?
Some other diplomat or UN official?
When
it came time to cross, Everdell again scarcely
landed a blow. He asked simple question and
then weaved away, like a boxer who doesn't
like to hit. Kurt began to wonder, How could
the trial be ending this way? How don't they
see this will only add to conspiracies?
So
too Twitter's suspension of one of the few
other accounts tweeting about the trial,
albeit mostly just ripping off Kurt's tweets.
They were taken down for a violation of an
unspecified rule. Readers began to advise Kurt
to shut down his own account and move
rightward.
But Jack had not taken him down, except once
when he was still in the UN and Periscoped the
diplomats watching the World Cup in the Vienna
Cafe. Twitter said that violated FIFA's
copyright, or maybe that of Qatar's BEin. They
locked him out, but only for six hours. From
the UN, Kurt's ban had now gone past three
years. And now Jack was gone.
When
the trial day ended and talk turned to having
the charging conference on Friday, either two
or nine days ago, Kurt left the courthouse and
headed twenty blocks south. These was a light
snow when he arrived at and started live
steaming the UN Pedophiles Ball at Cipriani at
25 Broadway.
A few ambassadors waved to him and then
hurried in, as much as one could hurry when
asked to show vaccination card and ID in the
snow. Kurt wondered out loud, had a bribe just
been witnessed and recorded, when one diplomat
went in inordinately fast? Or were some
pre-screened for entry, like Epstein and
Ghislaine with their private airports, private
jets and private island?
An
hour into the stakeout, when Kurt had begun to
shiver uncontrollably, an Egyptian reporter
came out and told him that Guterres was not
coming. He was quantantining, having been
exposed to COVID. He hadn't done that when he
came back from another Portuguese vacation;
his guards hadn't done that when they kept
they gym open when Kurt's New York City ones
were closed.Kurt became to think how to end it when
Melissa Fleming came down Broadway to
Cipriani's.
Kurt
yelled out, "Did you know that for the next UN
child rape case, by a Gabonese so-called
peacekeeper in the Central African Republic,
your spokesman Stephane Dujarric simply
refused to answer? Fleming looked back, not
friendly?
"This
is not Verified," Kurt continued. "This is
censorship." But Fleming had gone in, and soon
Kurt too would go, for a Jamaican beef patty
in a pizzeria on a side street, then back up
to the courthouse to write. When the trial
ended, guilty or not guilty, he would be where
he started, banned from the UN. Maybe it was
the constraints of life itself against which
the predators Epstein and Ghislaine had been
fighting with Les' money. Kurt would think
about that one, back out in the snow. #MaximumMaxwell
