UNITED NATIONS,
June 20 – When the UN
“launched” its Sustainable
Development Goals Report 2018
on June 20, Inner City Press
after some bait and switch
asked about the UN's
continuing lack of a Freedom
of Information Act, and the
UN's continuing engagement
with the China Energy Fund
Committee whose UN
representative Patrick Ho is
in jail on charges he bribed
UN President of the General
Assembly Sam Kutesa. Periscope
video here.
Deputy Secretary
General Amina J. Mohammed was
listed as being present. Inner
City Press had questions for
her, and so went to attend.
But she was not there, and it
was not explained. The
speakers who were referred to
the need for leadership. When
question time came, Inner City
Press' first question was, Why
isn't the DSG here? The
moderator - not, as listed,
lead UN Spokesman Stephane
Dujarric - said that some
unspecific scheduling conflict
had arisen. But this was one
of only two items on the DSG's
public schedule, along with a
Yoga event at 6:20 pm.
On the lack of FOIA, the
moderator said to ask
Dujarric. On CEFC,
panelist Francesca Perucci,
Assistant Director, Statistics
Division, UN Department of
Economic and Social Affairs
(UN DESA) said she couldn't
answer on that but that DESA
works with the Global
Partnership for Sustainable
Development Data. Their
website lists, as a corporate
partner, Facebook. We hope to
have more on all this.
