Man Charged With Coke in Stash House Was Denied Now Co-Defendent Gets 30 More Days

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 27 – Noe Villa Rios is in jail based on a law enforcement stop in Missouri yielding 12 kilograms of cocaine.

Back on April 20, 2021, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge John G. Koeltl held a bond proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

The US Attorney's Office's detention filing cites a "steal narcotics press," in a Stash House the defendant was living in.

The defense attorney, arguing for release, emphasized that the Stash House had common areas.

Judge Koeltl denied release.

On July 27, Judge Koeltl held a conference on and with co-defendant Alfredo Rodriguez. It emerged that a guilty plea may be in the offing. Judge Koeltl said he liked to take his own pleas and will in this case, unless it's in the last two weeks of August. In any event a September 28 further conference was set.

On September 28 the case Inner City Press covered Judge Koeltl's proceeding on Melvin Nathan Beltre, whose lawyer said they are "far apart" and asked for 30 days to decide whether to file motions.

Judge Koeltl set another conference for October 28 and excluded time "to allow the parities to discuss a disposition short of trial."

The overall case is US v. Beltre, 21-cr-155 (Koeltl)
