SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 6 – Prison guard Tameka
Lewis is charged with
smuggling synthetic
cannabinoids (K2) into the
Otis Banum Corrections Center
on Rikers Island.
On June 4,
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Jed S. Rakoff held an
arraignment proceeding. Inner
City Press covered
it.
The
Assistant US Attorney asked
for 90 days to produce
discovery. Judge Rakoff said,
Not so fast - or really, Not
so slow. He said the Speedy
Trial Act still means
something in his courtroom.
He gave 60 days
and, working around his trial
schedule, set the next
proceeding for July 28.
The case is US v.
Lewis, 21-cr-349 (Rakoff)
