SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 6 – Jorge Castillo is
charged with a cell phone
leasing fraud in Washington
Heights in Upper Manhattan.
On April
6, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Gregory H. Woods held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Castillo had
retained and paid two
attorneys. Now they wanted to
switch to being paid by the
government, under the Criminal
Justice Act.
They are not on
the CJA panel, but that can be
waived with the consent of the
Chief Judge. But two
lawyers?
One of them
said they will not
double-bill. So, it moves
toward trial. Castillo's
objections to the Government's
propsoed requests to charge
are due on April 13, as is his
proposed verdict form.
The case is US v.
Castillo, 19-cr-784 (Woods)
