SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 7 – Carlos Cuevas, a
barber, was arrested in East
Harlem on April 20, 2018 with
a straight razor in the
console of his car. The
charges were dropped. He sued.
On December 7 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
Judge
Buchwald asked Cuevas' lawyer
candidly about settlement
discussion. The City's lawyer
replied, given the number the
City offer, which a mediator
had doubled. The mid point
between the two, Cuevas had
rejected. [Inner City Press is
voluntarily not publishing the
figures here.]
Judge Buchwald
urged renewed focus, including
by Cuevas' counsel who had not
personally conferred with
Cuevas before the conference,
citing knee surgery.
The case is
Cuevas v. City of New York et
al., 19-cv-6709 (Buchwald)
