SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 28 –
Carina Cruz of Ozone Park,
Queens sued union 32BJ SEIU
and Kyle Eduard Bragg for
discrimination, as a
Dominican.
She said that the
union took a similar case of
an Albanian worker to
arbitration but not
hers.
On May 28 Inner
City Press covered a
conference in the federal case
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Lorna G.
Schofield. Judge
Schofield asked Cruz is she
intended to get a lawyer, and
referred her to the NY Legal
Assistance Group.
But Judge
Schofield to her credit told
the union's lawyer, also on
the call, that Cruz seemed to
make out a colorable claim of
discrimination, with the
comparator.
The case
is Cruz v. 32BJ SEIU et
al., 19-cv-11836 (Schofield).
