SDNY COURTHOUSE,
August 5 – Maurice Clarke was
sentenced to 25 years for
crack cocaine. Then came the
First Step
Act.
On August 5, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Paul A. Engelmayer held a
re-sentencing. Inner City
Press covered it.
After
recounting not only the First
Step Act changes but also the
conditions in prisons during
COVID, Judge Engelmayer
re-sentenced Clarke to time
served plus five days, to
prepare his release.
There was talk of
whether quarantine would be
required before release.
Clarke's attitude seemed
extremely positive.
The case is
US v. Clarke, 02-cr-1372
(Engelmayer)
