SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 12 – While
many or even
most cases in
the
Magistrates
Court of the U.S.
District Court
for the
Southern
District of
New York are
sealed or have
case numbers
given only
later, on September
12
Magistrate
Judge James
L. Cott near 7
pm processed a
drug defendant
whose name was
not even
spelled,
though he had
a private
lawyer and
five
supporters in
the gallery
where Inner
City Press was
the only
media.
Earlier
on September
12 Erick and
Adeena
Santiago were
presented and
charged with
"stealing
government
funds." Then
amid promises
of getting
them separate
lawyers, or of
a deferred
prosecution
agreement,
they were
released. Even
hours later
their case,
19-mj-8360,
was listed in
PACER as
"under seal."
This is not
transparency.
Inner City Press
will continue to cover this
and other SDNY and 2nd Circuit
cases - watch this site, and there is
more on
Patreon, here.
