SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 1 –
Vitali Voronjuk
was one of group extradited
from Estonia for a carfentanil
conspiracy whose arrival in
May 2018 Inner City Press
exclusively documented in the
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrates Court, here.
On June 30
Voronjuk after pleading guilty
appeared for sentencing before
SDNY Judge J. Paul Oekken.
Inner City Press covered
it.
Amid multiple
technological break down,
Voronjuk told a compelling
story, of growing up poor in
Estonia and being entrapped,
as he put it, by law
enforcement. I just wanted to
buy an apartment for my
mother, he said.
Judge Oetken acknowledged that
he had not had a carfentanil
business before being
contacted. But he sentenced
him to 33 months, which means
it seems nine additional
months, before deportation.
The case is US v.
Voronjuk, 18-cr-678 (Oetken).
