SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 12 – While
many or even
most cases in
the
Magistrates
Court of the U.S.
District Court
for the
Southern
District of
New York are
sealed or have
case numbers
given only
later, on September
12
Magistrate
Judge James
L. Cott near 7
pm processed a
drug defendant
whose name was
not even
spelled,
though he had
a private
lawyer and
five
supporters in
the gallery
where Inner
City Press was
the only
media.
Earlier
on September
12 a defendant
identified as
"Andrew Perez"
was presented
on narcotics
conspiracy
charges. The
first thing
his lawyer
said was that
his name is
Andy, not
Andrew. Judge
Cott said he
could not
change the
caption. And
hours later in
PACER, the
case was
listed as
"sealed." An
Amber Tosco
signed a bond
but still
another and
his passport
were awaited.
Judge Cott
answered a
question with
a joke: Ask
Mister Tam, I
just do what
he tells me.
And it's true
the importance
of courtroom
deputies is
understated,
except here on
Inner City
Press and @SDNYLIVE.
Inner City Press
will continue to cover this
and other SDNY and 2nd Circuit
cases - watch this site, and there is
more on
Patreon, here.
