SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 16 – Sean Combs has
filed a lawsuit for improper
use of his name, against GBG
Sean Jean, with whom he has a
deal, and Missguided Limited,
with which he does.
On April 16, U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Lewis J. Liman held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered and live tweeted it, here:
hearing in case
of Sean Combs, whose lawyer
calls him a "brand
ambassador," against
"MissGuided USA" for its
brand, GBG Sean Jean LLC,
accusing them of a fabricated
quote.
Sean Combs'
lawyer says they are in
discussing with an expert, and
that there were settlement
discussions, "that turned out
not to be productive." The
lawsuit is asking for $25
million.
Judge Liman: Am I
right that the using is using
"Puffy," not necessarily Sean
Jean? Combs' lawyer: Jean is
his middle name. The brand was
acquired by GBG - they have a
right to use it. But they
don't have the right to use
the name Sean Combs or say he
supports them
Judge Liman: I'm
trying to understand. The
complaint talks about P.Diddy.
What's the issue?
Combs'
lawyer: They say it was
founded by Mr. Combs. We'd
have expert testimony from a
survey expert. The falsified
quote is one of the most
blatant way they sought to
profit
Judge Liman: Have
you served MissGuided? Combs'
lawyer: It was served in the
UK, under Hague Convention.
They are in default.
Now in the docket
is the certificate of service.
The case is Combs
v. GBG Sean John LLC, et al.,
21-cv-996 (Liman)
