COURTHOUSE, July 17 –
The SEC sued John David McAfee
and Jimmy Gale Watson for
digital assets fraud. Then
McAfee was found dead in a
jail in Spain, after a
decision to extradite him to
the US for a related criminal
case.
On July 16, U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge John G. Koeltl held a
proceeding in the civil case.
Inner City Press covered
it.
The SEC
lawyer, the same one in Ripple
and Telegram before it, said
that there are "press reports"
of McAfee's death but that the
SEC was trying confirm he is
dead.
The defense
lawyer said suicide, and
extradition.
The case is
Securities and Exchange
Commission v. McAfee et al.,
20-cv-8281 (Koeltl)
