In SDNY Ramsnamy Alleging Police Targeted Him Is Offering In Person Court Date In May

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - The Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 1 –  Steve Ramsnamy was arrested on drug charges in 2013.

On May 1, 2020 he spoke before and to Judge Denise L. Cote of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, recounting how police from a particular Bronx precinct have targeted him since his youth.

Judge Cote, who had cautioned him before he spoke for himself, maintained that she may extend his period of supervision for six months in the next proceeding.

Notably and to her credit, in this time of Coronavirus, Judge Cote said the defendant has an absolute right to be present in court and if he does not waive it she will do her best to accommodate it.

"Those required to be in court will be here," she said. Inner City Press, who covered this, too. The case is US v. Ramsnamy, 13-cr-242 (Cote).
