SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 5 – In a
multi-defendant drug
conspiracy case, on June 4
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Victor Marrero held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
In the docket,
this from May 7, 2020: "Tomas
Anzaldua. ORDERED that the
defendant's bail be modified
to permit home detention to be
temporarily monitored with
technology at the discretion
of Pretrial Services, which
may include the use of video
conferencing or other approved
applications until such time
that the defendant is not
symptomatic of or positive for
COVID-19."
Then May 19,
Judge Marrero "granting 58
LETTER MOTION filed by Tomas
Anzaldua (4), addressed to
Judge Victor Marrero dated May
15, 2020 re: Application for
modification of bail
conditions. I represent
defendant Tomas Anzaldua in
the above-referenced matter. I
write to request a
modification of the terms of
Mr. Anzaldua's pretrial
release to remove the home
detention and location
monitoring requirements. We
have consulted with the
Pretrial Services Office and
the U.S. Attorney's Office,
and they do not object to this
request."
The
defendants' lawyers range from
Victor Hou of Cleary Gottlieb
and - CJA as well as pro
bono credits -- and other
straight CJAs. Judge Marrero
signed a protective order and
set the next conference for
September 4.
The case is US v.
Juarez, 19-cr-579
(Marrero).
