SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 29 – On May 30 U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Laura Taylor Swain held
a remote sentencing proceeding
for Adam Bonano for cocaine,
dragging a victim, and
choking. Inner City Press
covered it. Judge Swain had
held a lengthy proceeding on
February 21, 2020, before the
COVID-19 pandemic moved such
proceedings to virtual
status.
On May 29,
Bonano's lawyer said his
client was "sliced up" in the
MCC jail. Then came the
lockdown for a gun, which he
said was smuggled in by a
Corrections Officer. Now,
lockdown for COVID-19.
He opposed the 12-18 month
guideline, saying that "No
transfers are taking place in
the BOP."
Assistant
US Attorney Thomas John Wright
used the phrase "dark and ugly
and foreboding" referring to
domestic violence.
Bonano spoke for himself: This
here is hell. Put yourself in
my shoes. I got cut in the
face. Three months with no
phone calls. I took it like a
man. Have a pinch of
consideration. I'm willing to
do my time. I don't need
probation. I want to move on
with my life.
Judge Swain ruled, The
following sentence will be
imposed. For Specifications 2
and 3, a year and a day. For
the other Specifications, six
months concurrent. So total,
12 month and 1 day, to be
followed by four years of
supervised release.
The case is US v.
Bonano, 13-cr-957 (Swain).
