SDNY COURTHOUSE,
August 9 – Maspeth Music
and Republic Records, a
division of UMG Recordings,
signed a deal in 2015 to
distribute the music of Matt
Simons.
But the license
for a $34,500 a year contract
with the Arizona Office of
Tourism was not renewed. A
lawsuit
ensued.
On August 9, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
John G. Koeltl held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Judge
Koeltl asked if the parties
would agree to try the case
before Magistrate Judge James
Cott - and a jury, he hastened
to add. But the plaintiff said
No.
Judge
Koeltl said that the parties
in the Mediation Program would
not get to choose either.
A pre-trial order
is due on April 14, 2022 and
must be trial ready on 48
hours notice, 14 days after
that.
The case is
Maspeth Music BV v. Republic
Records, a division of UMG
Recordings, Inc., 21-cv-4095
(Koeltl)
