SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 29 – The New York Times
has been sued for racial
discrimination by long time
Art Director Bernadette
Dashiell, previously of the
Newark Star-Ledger.
The case,
wheeled out to U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Paul A. Engelmayer, has been
reviewed in the docket by
Inner City Press, which covers
SDNY daily.
Dashiell's
complaint cites discrimination
in employment on the basis of
race, gender and age, "as well
as 'intersectional' or 'race
plus gender'
discrimination."
The
complaint recounts that
Dashiell "was assigned
responsibility for the
Thursday Styles Section, a
part of Features."
And, "Plaintiff's
pay has been lower than
similarly situated employees
who were non-Black, male or
younger than Plaintiff, since
at least 2006."
To that,
the New York Times has
responded "Defendant denies
the allegations contained in
Paragraph 70 of the
Complaint."
Inner City Press
will continue to cover the
case, which is Dashiell v. The
New York Times Company,
22-cv-1922 (Engelmayer)
