SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 30 – A woman who took an
Uber from New York City to Rye
Brook but says she was
sexually assaulted by the
driver has sued Uber, as Jane
Doe.
On September 8 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Lewis J. Liman held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
The
complaint says "Uber heavily
targets young, single women in
its advertising with promises
of 'safe' transportation."
It says the
assault took place on June
7-8, 2018; she nodded off in
the car and was awoken by a
touch, the driver had his hand
up her skirt.
The
lawyer for Uber said it will
take time to unseal the
criminal case, but she said
the driver Iqbal Hussain - a
"non-party" -- was acquitted
and is not in state custody.
Now on
September 30, this: Uber has
filed a motion to dismiss,
asserting among other things
that it "owed no duty of
care." Oh.
The case is Doe
v. Uber Technologies, Inc.,
20-cv-8446 (Liman)
