SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 19 – In Federal court in
Manhattan, amid the COVID-19
pandemic and inmates
complaining of lack of soap
and light bulb there is still
litigation about darkness, for
example a lawsuit against a
hotel in Gramercy Park for
being inaccessible to the
blind.
The Marcel
At Gramercy hotel was sued on
this basis and it nearing
settlement, they say. On May
21 a conference was held
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Lewis J. Liman.
Inner City Press covered
it.
The hotel's
counsel Thomas Bizzaro was
initially not on the call; he
said it was not on his
calendar. When the conference
began, the parties said they
were discussion settlement.
Judge
Liman set a next conference in
eight weeks, and told them if
it is not settled to file a
case management plan the day
before, and to be prepared for
a trial date. Write this date
down in your calendars, he
advised them.
The case is
Duncan v. Marcel At Gramercy
LLC, 19-cv-7925 (Liman).
