SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 15 – Venezuelan oil firm
CITGO lost over 900,000
barrels of oil aboard the M/T
Gerd Knutsen to "Venezuelan
actors" on February 9, 2020.
It was insured, and CITGO sued
and insurers for not
paying. But who is
suing?
On December 15, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Judge Gregory H. Woods held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
The complaint for
CITGO is clearly on behalf of
supporters of Juan Guaido. The
Venezuelan actors who took the
oil are described a "Maduro
loyalists."
The insurers' defense is
that "the Maduro regime,
whatever its legitimacy may
be, was not an insurrection
against the Guaido
government."
Now the
insurers want an extension of
time to conduct expert
discovery.
The case is
Citgo Petroleum Corporation v.
Ascot Underwriting Limited,
for and on behalf of Lloyd's
Syndicate 1414 et al.,
21-cv-389 (Woods)
