SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 26 – Idrissa Diallo was
been arrested and presented in
New York on charges of
identity theft in connection
with tobacco sales - but he
says he is a refugee and was
bailed out on the basis on
November 26 by U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Robert W.
Lehrburger.
Assistant US Attorney Rushmi
Bhaskaran could not or would
not confirm that Diallo has
asylum; she said that he is a
risk of flight because his
wife and two children live in
Paris and he visited Guinea in
April 2019.
Given how little
was said in open court on
November 26, when Inner City
Press was again the only media
in the SDNY Magistrates Court,
it was hard to understand how
Diallo could have asylum from
Guinea while also visiting
there. Is another country
involved?
Judge Lehrburger ruled that
Diallo could be released on a
$50,000 bond signed by three
financial responsible people,
with electronic monitoring.
His underlying case is in the
Northern District of Georgia,
where is is 19-cr-444. In the
SDNY, this case is US v.
Diallo, 19-mj-11165
(Lehrburger).
