SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 4 – Francisco Brito
was on Supervised Release
after pleading guilty to
possession of a weapon in
furtherance of a drug
trafficking offense when his
cell phone service provided
T-Mobile turned his phone off
for failure to pay.
On
December 4 Brito was arrested
in Jersey City and brought in
shackles before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Barbara
Moses.
Although Brito was assigned a
white shoe law firm lawyer
with a team of two under the
Criminal Justice Act, he
repeatedly spoke on his own
behalf, asserting that he had
texted his probation officer
as soon as he got his phone
turned back on, and
complaining about T-Mobile.
Judge Moses before ruling on
Brito's request to be bailed
on Violations of Supervised
Release not yet in PACER
pending an appearance next
week before SDNY District
Judge Andrew L. Carter asked
what financially responsible
people he knew who might
co-sign a bond for him.
His
uncle owns a deli; he has a
child with a women who, it was
said, has a master's degree.
Bond
was set at $10,000 with one
such co-signer, who must sign
before Brito is released.
Inner City Press was the only
media in the SDNY Mag Court
and will continue to follow
these cases. This case is US
v. Brito, 14-cr-223
(Carter).
