SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 8 – Asim Hameedi pled
guilty to medical care fraud
in a case dating back to 2017,
but but in July 2020 had yet
to be sentenced.
A so-called
Fatico hearing to determine
how much forfeiture he owes
was scheduled for this month,
but on July 8, 2020 his able
lawyer argued that holding the
hearing would be dangerous
during the COVID-19
pandemic.
In fact,
his lawyer implied that he
might not return to the
courthouse until there is a
vaccine.
Now apparently he
has been - the sentencing took
place on May 20, and Inner
City Press covered it.
U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
John G. Koeltl imposed a
sentence of 20 months with
restitution of $554,000. The
guideline, as stated, was 108
months. This is not
mentioned in the US Attorney's
Office press release hours
later.
It
appears that
there will be
one or more
appeals. Watch
this site.
The case is US v.
Hameedi, et al., 17-cr-137
(Koeltl)
