SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 8 – Asim Hameedi has pled
guilty to medical care fraud
in a case dating back to 2017,
but has yet to be sentenced.
It will not happen soon.
A so-called
Fatico hearing to determine
how much forfeiture he owes
was scheduled for this month,
but on July 8 his able lawyer
argued that holding the
hearing would be dangerous
during the COVID-19
pandemic.
In fact,
his lawyer implied that he
might not return to the
courthouse until there is a
vaccine.
Even U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge John G. Koeltl
questioned this.
But Judge Koeltl
after much musing granted the
adjournment, until September.
The case is US v. Hameedi, et
al., 17-cr-137 (Koeltl)
