SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 1 – Evelin Jiminez wants
to plead guilty. But her
lawyer Judith Vargas does not
want to fly to New York and
enter the courthouse due to
COVID-19. On July
1 U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Sidney H. Stein held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
The "change of
plea" had already be moved
from June 29 to July 29.
But Judge Stein
wanted to ask how to
proceeding. Ms. Vargas
said she did not want to fly
to New York. Her stationary
lists offices in New York (20
Vesey Street) and Puerto Rico.
On July 1
she said that with her client
out on bond, she is no hurry
to have her plead guilty and
be incarcerated.
Judge Stein said
that was putting the cart
before the horse.
The case is US v.
Jimenez, et al., 18-cr-879
(Stein).
