SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 7 – Marcus Mehmet Erkan
sued Genco Shipping &
Trading Limited for
discrimination against him as
a Turkish national and a
Muslim.
On May 6, U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Gregory H.
Woods held a proceeding. Inner
City Press covered
it.
Erkan's complaint
says that after one of Genco's
ships had a problem,
Operations Director Bill
Firaris "who is
Greek/non-Turkish" yelled
"F-ing Turks" and
more.
Judge Woods
said that fact discovery is
due by September 12, with a
status conference on November
14.
The case is
Erkan v. Genco Shipping &
Trading Limited, 22-cv-186
