SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 27 – Richard
Gonzalez was arrested in a
drug sting, moving a kilo of
what he thought were narcotics
in The Bronx. But there was
more to his
story.
On January 27, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Naomi Reice Buchwald held his
sentencing. Inner City Press
covered it.
As set out
by his defense counsel,
Gonzalez just before the COVID
pandemic hit had invested his
life savings into opening a
restaurant in Long Island
City, Queens.
That failed, and
he was driving Uber. But he
became concerned that could
infect his children.
Then came
the offer for $500 to move a
package. He got arrested.
Judge
Buchwald, to her credit,
listened to the story. She
sentenced Gonzalez to time
served with two years of
supervised release.
The case is USA
v. Gonzalez, 21-cr-406
(Buchwald)
