SDNY COURTHOUSE,
August 10 – Rose Wanjugu
Mwangi started working at tech
firm Passbase, along with 34
others, in October 2019. She
says she soon faced racism and
sexism and she was terminated
after complaining on July 1.
On August
10, she sued.
In the complaint,
in the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York docket where Inner City
Press found it, Mwangi
recounts that a male engineer
at Passbase, Andrei Strugaru,
told here that "women belong
in the kitchen, because men
don’t do a good job
there."
The case
was filed on the day Andrew
Cuomo resigned. It names
Passbase co-founders Mathias
Klenk and Dave McGibbon, both
named to Forbes'
30 under 30 Europe in
2020, as individual
defendants. It requests the
specific performance of
reinstating Mwangi, as well as
damages and attorneys'
fees.
The case is
Mwangi v. Passbase, Inc., et
al., 21-cv-6728
