SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 28 – Ramon Antonio
Mendez-Urena was convicted of
heroin sales in 2016 and was
deported to the Dominican
Republic after serving 21
months in prison.
On
November 20, 2019 Mendez-Urena
was arrested in The Bronx for
drug sales, and a fingerprint
search led to his federal
prosecution for "Reentry of
Deported Alien."
He was
released on $25,000 bond on
May 8, 2020 by U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Analisa Torres, amid the
COVID-19 pandemic.
In a May 28
proceeding covered by Inner
City Press, Judge Torres
pushed back now-free
Mendez-Urena's trial from July
9, 2020 to June 21, 2021 with
Speedy Trial Act time excluded
to July 2, 2020.
The case is US v.
Mendez-Urena, 20-cr-65
(Torres).
