SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 29 – John Crews was a
crime crew in the summer of
2013 in Monticello, Wallkill
and Middletown, New York,
committing armed robberies of
a Denny's and two gas stations
including a pistol-whipping,
and a home invasion in which a
victim was tasered in front of
a child.
He was
sentenced to 204 months, while
his co-conspirator who
actually did the pistol
whipping got a four year deal
by cooperating.
Then the US
Supreme Court's in US v.
Davis required a
re-sentencing of Crew,
presumably downward with a
change application to gun
charges.
On October
29 U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Vincent L. Briccetti
held the re-sentencing. Inner
City Press covered
it.
Crews' lawyer was
arguing that the cooperator
had done the pistol whipping,
but Judge Bricetti stopped
him. He shares guilt for that,
he said. Move on.
Judge
Briccetti crediting Crews for
taking classes while in jail,
including one on the history
of Egypt.
But he
returned to the viciousness of
the crimes, and imposed a
sentence of 168 months or 14
years. The call was over.
The case is US v.
Crews, 13-cr-835 (Briccetti)
