SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 10 – More than a
year after two soldiers
allegedly killed a woman at
the Electric Zoo music
festival on Randall's Island
in New York City, at 4 am on
December 10 they were arrested
at Fort Drum near the Canadian
border and brought down to the
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York.
There, the US Attorney's
Office agreed to $100,000 bail
and that pending trial they
should have no contact outside
the presence of counsel -
except in the case of military
operations. The two men are
Lagaria Slaughter and Tanner
Howell.
Magistrate Judge Sarah L.
Cave, who approved the agreed
bail conditions, asked if the
military would be transporting
the two soldiers back to Fort
Drum. Assistant US Attorney
Dominic Gentile said there is
no protocol for that.
Tanner Howell's lawyer said he
will stay overnight at his
girlfriend's apartment in
Flushing, Queens, then take
the long bus ride to Fort
Drum. Judge Cave asked if the
bus is reliable or presents
"unnecessary temptations." The
case is US v. Slaughter
and Howell, 19-mj
11398 (Cave).
