SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 3 – Joel Davis was a
founder of "Youth to End
Sexual Violence in 2014, which
grew out of 2014 global summit
meeting on sexual violence
organized in part by Angelina
Jolie, actress and United
Nations special envoy on the
topic.
In 2018 Joel
Davis was charged with
pedophilia, with the US
Attorney's press release
citing a nine year old and
even a toddler.
On January
16 Joel Davis pled guilty to
reduced charges, involving a
15-year old. U.S. District
Court of the Southern District
of New York Judge George B.
Daniels asked Joel Davis to
say in his own words what he
did.
Joel
Davis said that he had been
arranging for adult sex
through Grindr when he
arranged to have sex with a
15-year whom he thought was
older but knew to be less than
18, a crime. His allocution
did not mention any 9 year old
or toddler.
Joel Davis
apologized to the Court, but
also said that in his year and
a half so far in jail he has
been "fighting invisible wars"
with himself. He said "there
are categories of violence,
but no categories of victims."
He was a student at Columbia
University; he told Judge
Daniels his education had gone
until "senior year of
college."
His Federal
Defender pointed out an error
in the plea agreement about
the mandatory term of
supervised release. Assistant
US Attorney Juliana Murray
acknowledged the mistake and
said it would be corrected.
The sentencing is
set for May 7, and Inner City
Press which was the only media
in Judge Daniels' courtroom
for the guilty plea will aim
to be present at the
sentencing. The case is US v.
Davis, 18-cr-685
(Daniels).
