SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 5 – For some crimes
and specific countries, US
courts must provide consular
notice when foreign nationals
are presented and accused of
crimes.
On December
5 a woman seemingly named Lin
was presented for forgery of
passports in the U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrates Court, with Inner
City Press the only media in
the gallery.
Ms. Lin
was assigned Federal Defender
Philip Weinstein. SDNY
Magistrate Judge Barbara Moses
rhetorically asked if the
defendant needed an
interpreter, immediately
saying that given the issues
in the charging document that
seemed unlikely.
But
without a docket number and no
New Presentments for the day,
it was impossible to see the
charging document. For now all
Inner City Press can report is
that the other charges involve
conspiracy and identity theft,
and that Inner City Press will
pursue the case in Washington.
