SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Feb 7 – ArsTechnica
writer Peter Bright was an
"age player" and not a
pedophile, his Federal
Defenders argued on February 7
before his trial set to begin
February 12.
Inner City Press,
which first reported Bright's
presentment on the charges on
May 23, here,
was the only media present on
February 7 before Judge P.
Kevin Castel of the U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New
York. More on Patreon
here,
including on the case's
reference to... Justin Bieber.
This
already nearly empty final
pre-trial conference got
emptier still when Federal
Defender Amy Gallicchio asked
the FBI Agent Jensen leave the
courtroom when her interaction
with Bright as an undercover
came up.
Bright's
argument is the Agent Jensen
played a "mommy" - which is a
term of art, it was said, like
a daddy - and her offer of sex
with a seven and a nine year
old, which Bright said yes to,
was not to be taken
seriously.
That will
of course be for the jury to
determine. Judge Castel said
he will be the on questioning
jurors. The prosecution
estimated should could wrap up
their case in a single day.
The defense has a
self-described expert in age
play, from Canada, whom they
want to testify. Judge
Castel said perhaps he can
testify out of
order.
The trial will
begin Tuesday in deference to
Monday's funeral service for
Castel's follow SDNY Judge
Deborah A. Batts, at the
Cathedral of Saint John the
Divine. (Inner City Press
first reported her passing here).
Judge
Castel stated as his basis to
exclude time under the Speedy
Trial Act to honor his good
friend Judge Deborah Batts,
who gave him "great joy in
life."
Gallicchio told
Bright, as he was led away by
Marshals, that she will see
him Sunday. Out in the hallway
outside the courtroom was
Agent Jensen, waiting. The
case is US v. Bright,
19-cr-521 (Castel).
