SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 15 – Darlyn
Genao-Rojas was arrested in a
three-defendant drug
conspiracy in 2017.
On August 15,
2017 U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Naomi Reice
Buchwald held a so-called
Curcio hearing in which it was
alleged that part of the legal
retainer for Genoa-Rojas was
paid by his
co-defendants.
Some time
after that, Genoa-Rojas become
a cooperator and was released,
to another mid-Atlantic /
Northeastern state. Inner City
Press reports it that way,
because Genoa-Rojas cites
social media postings about
him being a "rat" as causing
him to not be able to
sleep.
So how do
courtrooms get sealed? Inner
City Press' understanding is
that it requires a letter from
the Department of Justice in
advance, with an opportunity
to be heard. We hope to have
more on this.
This case, listed
on July 15, 2020 on PACER, is
USA v. Tavares-Brito et al.,
17-cr-372 (Buchwald)
