SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 12 – John Ulrich was
arrested in February and
charged with taken bribes to
steer business from Teamsters
Local 812, of which he was
vice president, to Crossroads
Healthcare Management. He was
represented in U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrates Court by Jolene
Lavigne-Albert, for
presentment only.
On May 5 Ulrich's retained
counsel Douglas Eric Grover
told SDNY Judge Analisa
Torres, "I would like to move
to withdraw from representing
Mr. Ulrich in the case. We've
reached the point where,
frankly, Mr. Ulrich can't
afford my fees."
On
December 12, Ulrich appeared
before Judge Torres to plead
guilty. He has gotten from the
US Attorney's Office a plea
deal to recommend from 18 to
24 months in prison.
In the courtroom gallery along
with Inner City Press were
seven other people. Assistant
US Attorney Eli Mark referred
to the Mandatory Victims
Restitution Act; Judge Torres
said she will welcome
statements from victims in
connection with sentencing,
set for April 23 at 2 pm. The
case is US v. Ulrich,
19-cr-107 (Torres).
