SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 3 – A warrant for the
cellphone of Willy Sanchez was
signed on February 5, 2019 by
then-Magistrate Judge Henry B.
Pittman of the U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York.
This led
the DEA to a building at
Wadsworth Avenue and West
178th Street in Upper
Manhattan, where they
installed a camera on the 27th
floor pointing at
"Apartment-1."
Willy
Sanchez appeared in SDNY
Magistrates Court on January 3
to plead guilty. Inner City
Press was the only media in
the courtroom when, contrary
to the usual script, Willy
Sanchez spoke up.
He wanted Magistrate Judge
Stewart D. Aaron to know that
while he was pleading guilty
to the lesser included offense
of conspiracy to distribute
500 grams, he was not
responsible for the 20 kilos
found in the apartment.
Judge Aaron inquired,
including asking both lawyers
if this undermined the plea
deal. No, was the answer. The
deal was all about the
sentencing guideline of 135 to
168 months with a mandatory
minimum of 60 months.
The choice between the two
will be up to SDNY Judge Kimba
M. Wood, on April 6. The case
is US v. Sanchez, 19-cr-360
(Wood).
